On a farm or station, the people you need to reach can be paddocks away, out of mobile range or on a tractor with the engine running. Two-way radios give farming families and workers instant, reliable contact during mustering, harvest, spraying and day-to-day jobs, with no call costs. Radio Industries supplies UHF CB radios, vehicle radios and accessories for properties of every size across Australia.
What farms and stations use
Handheld UHF CB radios
Waterproof, licence-free handhelds for workers on foot, horseback or bikes. See UHF radios.
Vehicle and tractor radios
Mobile UHF radios for utes, tractors, headers and trucks. See vehicle radios.
Antennas
The right antenna makes a big difference to range on flat or hilly country. See antennas.
Push-to-talk over cellular
Reach family and staff on other properties or in town where there is mobile coverage. See PoC radios.
What to look for
IP67 waterproofing and dust sealing for outdoor work
Long battery life for long days in the paddock
5 watt handhelds and well-matched antennas for better range
Simple controls that work with gloves on
Repeater access to extend range over hills and large properties
Better range on larger properties
Range depends on terrain, antenna height and power. A well-placed vehicle or base station antenna, or a repeater, can extend coverage across large holdings. Tell us about your property and we will suggest a setup. For weak mobile coverage, see coverage solutions.

Farming & Agriculture Two-Way Radios FAQs
Do I need a licence for a UHF CB radio on my farm?
No. UHF CB radios operate under the ACMA class licence, so no individual licence is needed. Just make sure you use the channels correctly, including the emergency channels.
How far will a farm radio reach?
Range depends on terrain, antenna height and power. Handhelds may reach a few kilometres, while vehicle or base radios with a good antenna, or a repeater, can cover much larger areas.
Can I fit a radio to my tractor or header?
Yes. Compact mobile UHF radios suit most tractors, headers and utes. We also supply antennas and mounting accessories. See vehicle radios.
Are handheld radios waterproof?
Many are. Look for an IP67 rating, which means the radio is dust tight and can handle being dropped in water.
Can I get help choosing the right radios?
Yes. Call 1300 266 682 and tell us about your property and how you work, and we will recommend radios and antennas to suit.
